Coping with the workload
Going to graduate school is like taking on a second full time job if you are already a teacher. My best advice to you is to let friends and family know that there will be some changes to your regular routines for a while. You won't be able to make spontaneous trips to movies, shopping, etc. because of your study/work load. When you have class (whether on campus or on-line), that is your time and will not be skipped or shortened because of special events or activities. Making this clear up front helps a lot! Now, for yourself, one the otherhand. . .don't forget to schedule some "me" time so that you don't begin to resent the time your graduate work is taking from your life! Taking a break with a bath, a little TV, a walk, returning a phone call, etc. -- can help renew your resolve and keep you on track.
When I was studying for written comps, I had friends who took charge of my husband's social life! They took him to dinner or movies or ball games so I could study and so that he didn't resent my being too busy all the time.
