There are various ways of doing this. Some schools opt out of credits and others opt out of courses. Since you are going for a four year degree and probably going part-time, you should attempt to opt out of credits. That means you would attend for less time rather than take harder courses. On the other hand, the better regarded universities may only opt you out of courses, so if university reputation is important to you, that may be your better option. There are universities that will let you opt out of a course by taking the final and paying a small fee. I myself chose a university that gave me credits for almost a year of my coursework and then let me take a few tests for six more credits. It was an M.B.A. program and it took me six years to get through 12 courses!
