Default How do colleges calculate...

..."credit hours"? My daughter has been doing home school courses at college level. We need to calculate the totals. Does anyone know how that is done typically?Good answers first two; but here's some further explanation - She had options to CLEP with one course through enrichment program, but the teacher had an accident before it was completed. Now she's changed her major for college and applying for an Institute program which will accept certain credits from the current program. But the instructor doesn't want to do the background research on her previous courses to compile the totals - hence my need to calculate it. If I can do so, the head master of the program will certify and the current instructor will also. But, I have to make an accurate calculation. If that modifies the answer, let me know.

Typically, it's based on how many class hours you spend per week, i.e. a three credit hour class meets for 3 hours per week.I'm not sure why you'd need to calculate this. If she is taking college level courses through a college (maybe correspondence), they'll determine how many credit hours each class is worth. If you are just doing college level work in homeschool (say, calculus), I would be very surprised if any college would accept the credits as transfer credits. In this case, she'd most likely need to test out of the course (AP, CLEP, etc.)

I agree with the person above, I dont really think u can transfer credits to college from homeschool unless u take the AP exam for that course or CLEP.... You can always sign your daughter up for online college courses that are transferable but those courses are designed by the professor/ instructors and not the same as homeschool.......
